Professional Training & Capacity Building

Dr. Md. Nazrul Islam has engaged in numerous professional training programs and capacity-building workshops both at home and abroad. These training sessions have enhanced his expertise in ecological modeling, environmental systems, climate resilience, and scientific research methodology. His training participation reflects a strong commitment to lifelong learning and scientific excellence.

International Trainings

Dr. Islam has participated in high-impact international training programs that provided exposure to global best practices in environmental modeling and ecosystem research:

  • Ecological Modelling for Ecosystem Sustainability
Organized by International Society for Ecological Modelling (ISEM), Toulouse, France
    (October 2013)

  • Ecosystem-Based Marine Environmental Management
    Held in Hokkaido University, Japan
    (August 2010)

  • Global Land Project (GLP) Summer School
Focused on Integrated Land Ecosystem Modeling, Sapporo, Japan
    (August 2010)

  • Workshop on Ocean Observing Systems
Tokyo, Japan – With focus on scientific use of submarine cables
    (April 2011)

National Trainings

Within Bangladesh, Dr. Islam has contributed to and participated in advanced-level workshops and training sessions:

  • Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and Environmental Modelling
Organized by University Grants Commission (UGC) and Jahangirnagar University

  • GIS and Remote Sensing for Environmental Monitoring
Training conducted by Bangladesh Space Research and Remote Sensing Organization (SPARRSO)

  • Water Quality Assessment and Pollution Control
Conducted under Bangladesh Environmental Network (BEN)

Dr. Islam also mentors young researchers and students through hands-on training on:

  • Numerical modeling software (e.g., ECOPATH, MEC, AquaSim)

  • Research methodology and academic writing

  • Climate modeling and disaster resilience planning
