Dr. Md. Nazrul Islam has led and contributed to several important research initiatives funded by prominent national institutions including the University Grants Commission (UGC), National Science and Technology (NST) Fellowship, and Jahangirnagar University (JU) Research Grants. These projects address urgent environmental and socio-economic issues with scientific rigor and practical impact.

🧪 1. Climate Change Risk in Dhaka Megacity

• Funding Body: University Grants Commission (UGC)

• Year: 2012–2013

• Role: Lead Researcher

• Overview:
  This project explored the vulnerability of Dhaka’s urban systems to global warming and climate change impacts.

• Outcome: A comprehensive risk map and policy recommendation for urban resilience.

• Published As: “Effects of Global Warming on Developing Country: An Assessment on Dhaka Megacity in Bangladesh” (Lambert Academic Publishing, 2013)

🧪 2. Spatial and Temporal Assessment of Salinity Intrusion in Coastal Areas

• Funding Body: National Science and Technology Fellowship (NST), Ministry of Science and Technology, Bangladesh

• Year: 2010–2011

• Role: Principal Investigator

• Overview:
  The research focused on how increasing salinity affects agriculture and livelihoods in southwestern coastal Bangladesh.

• Outcome: GIS-based predictive models and salinity impact reports on rice production and soil health.

🧪 3. Depletion of Sundarbans Mangrove and Environmental Risks

• Funding Body: Jahangirnagar University Research Grant

• Year: 2011–2012

• Role: Principal Investigator

• Overview:
  This project assessed the degradation trends of the Sundarbans and their environmental consequences.

• Outcome: Forecasting model for deforestation and policy proposal for mangrove conservation.

• Overview:
  Research focusing on methodological development of geographic and environmental research techniques using statistical tools.

• Outcome: Authored textbook “গবেষণা পদ্ধতি ও পরিসংখ্যানিক প্রয়োগ” (Research Methods and Statistical Applications)
